Temporary residence applications can affect your travel, studies, work, family visits, and future immigration options in Canada. Choosing the right application matters, especially if you have a previous refusal, unclear documents, an expiring status, or a complex travel history.

At Ansari Immigration, we help clients understand their options, prepare complete applications, and avoid common mistakes that can lead to delays or refusals.

Which Temporary Residence Option May Be Right for You?

Visiting family or Tourism

Visitor Visa / TRV

This option may fit if you want to visit Canada temporarily for tourism, family visits, or a short stay. To make the application stronger, your documents should clearly explain why you are visiting, how long you plan to stay, how you will support yourself, and why you are expected to leave Canada at the end of your visit. Common issues include weak purpose of visit, unclear travel plans, limited proof of funds, weak ties to your home country, incomplete invitation letters, or not addressing previous refusals.

Visitor Visa / TRV

Inadmissibility or urgent compelling reason

Temporary Resident Permit

This option may fit if you are inadmissible or may be inadmissible to Canada but have a strong temporary reason to enter or remain in the country. The application should explain the reason for inadmissibility, why your entry is justified, and why the need to enter Canada outweighs the risk. Common issues include confusing a TRP with a TRV, weak explanation of the need to enter Canada, missing evidence of urgency or benefit, or not addressing inadmissibility clearly.

Temporary resident permit

Passing through Canada

Transit Visa

This option may fit if you need to pass through a Canadian airport on your way to another country and your nationality requires a transit visa. A strong application should clearly show your onward travel plans, itinerary, and destination outside Canada. Common issues include applying for the wrong visa, missing onward travel details, unclear itineraries, or assuming every short stopover has the same visa requirement.

Transit Visa

Studying in Canada

Study Permit

This option may fit if you have been accepted by a designated learning institution and plan to study in Canada. A strong application should connect your chosen program to your education, work history, finances, and future goals. Common issues include weak study plans, missing PAL/TAL documents when required, unclear financial support, choosing a program that does not match your background, or failing to explain why studying in Canada makes sense for your situation.

Study Permit

Working in Canada

Work Permit

This option may fit if you have a qualifying job offer, LMIA, LMIA-exempt pathway, open work permit eligibility, or another valid route to work in Canada. The application should clearly show why you qualify for that specific type of work permit and include strong employer, job duty, and eligibility documents. Common issues include applying under the wrong work permit type, weak employer documents, unclear job duties, missing LMIA or exemption details, or misunderstanding work eligibility.

Work Permit

Parent or grandparent visiting long term

Super Visa

Super Visa

This option may fit if you are the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and want to visit Canada for longer periods. A strong application should show your relationship, the host’s eligibility, financial support, medical insurance, and the temporary nature of your stay. Common issues include missing medical insurance, weak proof of host income, incomplete relationship documents, unclear visit purpose, or misunderstanding the Super Visa compared with a regular visitor visa.

Business meetings or conferences

Business Visitor Visa

Business Visitor Visa

This option may fit if you are coming to Canada for short-term business activities such as meetings, conferences, negotiations, training, or site visits without entering the Canadian labour market. The application should clearly explain the business purpose of the visit and show that your main employment and income remain outside Canada. Common issues include describing work activities incorrectly, weak invitation documents, unclear business purpose, failing to show ties outside Canada, or confusing business visitor status with a work permit.
