Express Entry Revolution in Canada: What You Need to Know

Canada is witnessing a dramatic shift in its Express Entry program, ushering in an era of new opportunities for potential immigrants. At Ansari Immigration, we have been closely monitoring these updates and are excited to share our insights with you. From the launch of new category-based selections to a record number of invitations being issued, the Express Entry landscape is evolving, and here's how.

Record Number of Invitations Issued

In a historic move, IRCC held four Express Entry draws in a single week, inviting a whopping 9,800 candidates over the course of two weeks. This comes on the back of the first-ever French category-based Express Entry draw, which prioritized 2,300 candidates with strong French-speaking abilities. With a CRS score of just 439, this draw had the lowest cut-off of 2023.

Emphasis on Healthcare, STEM, and Other Categories

The recent rounds of invitations have shown a clear focus on various professional categories. For instance, 1,500 invitations were issued to candidates with work experience in healthcare professions, signaling Canada's intent to fill urgent gaps in the labor force. In another first, a draw was held for candidates in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions, which saw 500 invitations being issued.

IRCC has also introduced six new selection categories for 2023: Healthcare, STEM professions, Trades (carpenters, plumbers, contractors), Transport, Agriculture and agri-food, and Strong French-language proficiency. These categories, formulated after comprehensive discussions with provincial and territorial governments, as well as IRCC partners and stakeholders, are aimed at meeting the needs of Canada's economic priorities.

The Future of Express Entry in Canada

Looking ahead, IRCC's Immigration Levels Plan 2023-2025 outlines a target to admit up to 82,880 newcomers through Express Entry by the end of 2023, with numbers potentially rising to 114,000 by the end of 2025. The new category-based selection process is expected to play a pivotal role in achieving these targets.
